Doubling your money, courtesy of Best Buy!

Sorry folks – the deal in this blog post has expired. That said, it’s something that will likely happen again and I’ll be sure to let you guys know when it does!

Hi folks! Sadly this deal is about to expire (September 26th FOR NOW) but it’s a GREAT deal that Best Buy does a couple times a year. This is the first of (hopefully many) “Sourcing Hacks” posts that will help your money go further. I originally posted this in a couple FB groups on 9/12 as my “birthday gift” to the members of the groups.

Want the Cliff Notes version? Best Buy is giving $50 gift cards out to anyone who brings in ANY working tablet. Details below in the form of my original FB post.

Hi folks! This is my birthday gift to you!

Best Buy is currently doing a promotion where ANY WORKING TABLET that you trade in will give you a $50 gift card and a $50 coupon for one of the new galaxy tablets. The coupon is worthless (to me anyway) but the gift cards present a unique opportunity.

Now. Get on craigslist, Ebay, Aliexpress, Cowboom, Your local FB “for sale” group and/or whatever website you can think of to find cheap tablets. The cheaper the better obviously, with a couple notable exceptions – the tablet must NOT be a Nook, Kindle E-reader or Boogie Board – the tablet must turn on and there can’t be any cracks on the screen. THAT’S IT!

The promotion goes through 9/26 so I suggest that you make sure you know it’ll get to you in time for you to trade it i. If for some reason you don’t get it on time then don’t sweat it too much – Best Buy does a variation of this deal every six months or so.

The best thing about this deal? Best Buy sells Ebay gift cards.

So you can buy those with your best buy giftcard (tax free) and then source pretty much anything with it via Ebay at basicly 50% off if you can find a $25 tablet. I personally source a lot of stuff from Ebay AND got in on a tablet sale on Aliexpress and bought twenty tablets for only twenty-five bucks each so this is a huge deal for me.

I spent $500 up front and traded in 25+ tablets when I was out doing other sourcing and it Netted me over $1,000 in Ebay gift cards! Best of luck to you all and if you have any questions let me know.

Here are a few links/sources you may find useful if you decide to do this.

The original Slickdeals post on this deal (where I found out about this promo, highly recommend keeping an eye on this site for deals worth flipping)

Best Buy page for the promo (READ the fine print)

AliExpress (look for US shippers only if time is of the essence)

These AliExpress tablets were on sale for $25 and were the ones I bought twenty of, keep an eye on them – may drop down again.

Cowboom – this site is basicly Best Buy returns (which I find ironic and amusing as a source for this)
Here’s a couple current deals
$25 tablet –
$30 tablet –…

Now for the fine print and caveats.

  • Technically, you are only allowed to trade in TWO tablets per person. Having traded in almost Twenty-Five of them during this promo alone I can tell you that that is a PER STORE limit, some stores will even let you do a second transaction with another two – all depends on the person at customer service
  • If you buy “no-name” tablets for the promo, go prepared to argue with some nitpicky customer service reps. They have a generic SKU they can use and will need to process the tablet as being RECYCLED. Some customer service reps will point out that the fine print says “Not all products are eligible for trade-in” – That said, in both fine print AND not so fine print it says ANY TABLET. Even in stores where the manager showed up and tried to argue that because it wasn’t in their system it wasn’t eligible I was able to do the trade in by politely and firmly pointing out the “Get a minimum $50 gift card for trade-in of any working tablet.” language and encouraging them to process the tablet as a recycle.

That’s it! I’ve been sourcing off ebay and had the bonus of having turned $500 of sourcing cash turned into $1k worth of ebay gift cards. Next time this promo goes live I’ll post linking to this page to let you know when to get in on it.

Happy Sourcing!
